In my opinion, Tikves is the biggest surprise of the new season, but their impressive performances are the result of long-term stability rather than overnight success. The club has enjoyed several years of financial stability, backed by Mitko Jancev, one of the wealthiest businessmen in the country and the mayor of Kavadarci. Towards the end of last season, the club experienced some turbulence after a Turkish businessman with a questionable reputation took control. However, following an investigation into suspected match-fixing, Jancev swiftly removed him from the club and resumed control.
Tikves have also made some excellent foreign signings, assembling a diverse squad featuring six players from African countries, two Brazilians and several footballers from neighboring Balkan nations. Before the international break, they recorded one victory and four draws in their last five matches, although their schedule was particularly demanding, with fixtures against the league’s strongest sides, including Sileks, Struga, Shkendija and Vardar.
Bregalnica Stip have a solid squad and are capable of causing problems for virtually any opponent on home soil. However, their away form has been extremely disappointing. They have collected just one point from four away matches while conceding 12 goals, highlighting their significant defensive vulnerabilities on the road.
In my opinion, Tikves have the stronger overall squad, particularly with Guinean forward N’fanly Sylla (8/7), currently the league’s leading scorer and already attracting interest from several bigger Turkish clubs. Tikves traditionally perform well at home and this fixture presents an excellent opportunity to return to winning ways against an opponent that has struggled considerably away from home.
