Recap
Vardar opened their European campaign with two narrow defeats, losing 33-31 away to Melsungen before suffering a heartbreaking 32-33 defeat at home to Nantes. Despite the disappointing results, Vardar were competitive in both matches and their personnel situation has now improved significantly. Lazarevski remains the only unavailable player due to his long-term injury, which is certainly positive news for coach Cupić.
The defeat against Nantes was particularly painful, as Vardar had several opportunities to take control of the game. Jaka Malus missed two clear chances – one that could have put Vardar ahead and another in the final attack that could have secured at least a draw. The performance nevertheless demonstrated that Vardar are capable of competing at this level.
Once again, Jane Sandanski will be completely packed, with the home supporters expected to create a typically intense and frenetic atmosphere.
Wisła Płock have recorded one victory and one defeat so far, with both matches decided by just a single goal. They possess a strong defense, but their offensive production has been less convincing, which could become a significant factor against a Vardar side playing in front of a passionate home crowd.
The h2h record also favors Vardar. In six previous meetings with Wisła Płock, Vardar have recorded three victories, two draws and only one defeat. More importantly, they remain unbeaten in Skopje, with three wins and one draw.
This could be a crucial fixture for Vardar in their pursuit of second place in Group B. With home advantage, an improved squad situation and an excellent record against Wisła in Skopje, I expect the Polish side to face an extremely difficult evening at Jane Sandanski.
Extra bet: Vardar win @ 3.10
