Alashkert enjoyed a solid European campaign but were ultimately eliminated by CFR Cluj in the Conference League. With their continental journey now over, their full attention can turn towards the domestic championship, where they have made a promising start.
They opened the league season with two convincing home victories, both by 3:0, before suffering a narrow 1:0 defeat away to title contenders Noah FC. That result should not be viewed too negatively, particularly given the quality of the opposition and Alashkert now have an excellent opportunity to return to winning ways.
Gandzasar look set for another difficult campaign and appear to be among the main candidates for relegation. Their away record last season was particularly poor, finishing with just one victory, two draws and ten defeats. After three rounds this season, they have already suffered two defeats, with their only victory coming at home against newly promoted Syunik.
Their task becomes even more difficult here with the absence of key midfielder Leo Reis (3/0), who is sidelined through injury.
The difference between the two teams is significant. Alashkert have greater quality, more experience and considerably higher ambitions, while Gandzasar have shown little evidence that they can compete consistently away from home.
