Recap

Exactly one year ago, Dobrudzha were celebrating the long-awaited return to the Bulgarian First League. They made a promising start to the season and initially produced some good results, but were unable to maintain that level until the end and were eventually relegated. Now, the club finds itself facing a much more serious problem: its financial future is uncertain.

The situation became particularly concerning ahead of last weekend’s home match against Yantra Gabrovo. During the general meeting, the club’s Board of Directors was dismissed, creating further uncertainty regarding the future management and financing of the team.

The problems are not limited to the administration. Dobrudzha’s players reportedly have not received their salaries since the beginning of pre-season, with accumulated wage arrears estimated at around €155,000. Outstanding social security contributions are reportedly in excess of €50,000 as well.

The financial situation has become so critical that the former Board of Directors has reportedly been unable to provide funding for the upcoming away fixture in Pernik against Marek. A public appeal has therefore been made to the Municipality of Dobrich, local authorities, businesses, the football community and anyone capable of helping the club overcome the crisis.

This level of instability inevitably creates enormous uncertainty within the squad. With players reportedly considering their futures and the club struggling even to finance an away trip, it is extremely difficult to expect full concentration and competitive stability on the pitch.

Marek are playing their home matches in Pernik while renovation work continues at their Bonchuk Stadium. Their start to the season has not been particularly impressive, playing four away matches in a row, with just one victory against Fratria, followed by three consecutive defeats. They will also be without Lyubomirov (3/0) and Kaymakanski (3/0), who are both suspended.

Despite Marek’s own inconsistent start, the circumstances surrounding Dobrudzha are extremely difficult to ignore. The combination of unpaid salaries, administrative turmoil, financial uncertainty and the possibility of players leaving the club creates a major disadvantage for the visitors. Also, they lost two games in a row and according to information’s in the last away match against newly promoted Nesebar, they go directly to the match, without having food during their trip to the Black Sea.

This is the main reason I am taking Marek. Dobrudzha are in complete chaos and with several players reportedly on the verge of leaving, which is a good chance for the host to take advantage and secure the victory.
