Recap
Zwickau will close the 2025/26 season at home against Buxtehuder SV, but the hosts enter this match in extremely poor condition both physically and mentally.
This will already be Zwickau’s third match in just 11 days and recent performances clearly show signs of exhaustion and lack of depth. After the heavy 30:37 home defeat against VfL Oldenburg, they were completely outplayed away to SV Union Halle-Neustadt, losing by a humiliating 37:21 scoreline.
Those results mean Zwickau have now suffered six defeats in their last seven matches, while the personnel situation continues to deteriorate. In addition to long-term absences Barbara Viktoria Györi and Laura Penzes, the team will also be without Kaho Nakayama and Lilly Janßen. Assistant coach Dietmar Schmidt openly admitted that the biggest problems are currently in the goalkeeper position, which is especially worrying against an opponent in strong attacking form.
There is also a clear sense that this cycle at the club is ending. Following the season, no fewer than eight players will leave the squad, meaning this will be the final appearance of the current group in this formation.
Meanwhile, Buxtehuder arrive with completely opposite momentum. The visitors are unbeaten in their last four matches with three wins and one draw and historically they have dominated this match with 11 victories in 13 h2h games.
