Mallorca arrive into the final round with absolutely no margin for error. The equation is simple: their survival chances may be slim, but as long as the possibility still exists, this is a match they simply must win. There is no alternative scenario or room for calculations anymore.
What makes Mallorca’s situation even more surprising is the overall quality within the squad. On paper, this is not a team that should realistically find itself battling so dangerously close to relegation heading into the final round of the season.
On the other side, Real Oviedo approach the match in a completely different emotional and competitive context. Already relegated and rooted to the bottom of the table, winning only one point in the last five rounds (0-1-4) their season is effectively over. Even with professional pride remaining, the intensity and urgency are naturally difficult to replicate once there is nothing meaningful left to fight for. Rotations would not be surprising, nor would opportunities for players expected to form part of next season’s Segunda División project.
The absence of Fede Viñas (33/9) represents a massive blow for Oviedo. As the club’s leading scorer and most decisive attacking weapon, he has often been the player capable of changing matches individually. Without him, Oviedo lose much of their offensive threat and the one player most capable of unsettling Mallorca’s defense if the game became stretched. In addition, Dendoncker (19/1) and Ejaria (8/0) remain unavailable.
From every angle – motivation, urgency, home advantage and overall squad quality, the balance appears to lean strongly in Mallorca’s favor. They are fighting for survival and the future of the club in La Liga, while Oviedo already seem mentally focused on the next chapter in Segunda División.
