Recap
Venlo head into the new Eerste Divisie season aiming to improve on last year’s mid-table finish, having fallen well short of the promotion race and failing to reach the play-offs. Rather than opting for a major rebuild, the club has chosen continuity, retaining the core of the squad while placing greater trust in its younger players. An interesting aspect of the current squad is the presence of several players with Heracles connections, including Lasse Wehmeyer and Diego van Oorschot, who joined on loan from Almelo.
Heracles, return to the Eerste Divisie after relegation and have made an immediate return to the Eredivisie their clear objective. While a handful of players departed during the summer, the club managed to keep much of its regular starting eleven intact and strengthened further with the arrivals of Naci Ünüvar, Erik Ahlstrand, and Lequincio Zeefuik. All three have the quality to make a significant impact at this level and add even more attacking threat to an already talented squad.
Heracles produced several high-scoring performances during pre-season, underlining their offensive potential. However, those matches also revealed defensive vulnerabilities, with the back line often leaving space for opponents to exploit.
Due to attacking quality on both sides and Heracles tendency to play open, entertaining football, this fixture has all the ingredients for a match rich of goals.
