Gyöngyösi are entering an extremely demanding period, with three matches scheduled within just five days. Following a painful 41-30 defeat away to Csurgó over the weekend, they now face another long trip to Szeged before travelling again on Wednesday for a Hungarian Cup third-round tie against Rákosmente.
Head coach Marcell Bihari openly acknowledged the difficult schedule, saying: “This period is full of long trips and is not easy. Our priority is Wednesday’s match, as we want to continue into the next round of the Cup. Today is an opportunity for our young players to gain valuable experience”
Those comments strongly suggest that rotation will be a major factor, with Gyöngyös likely to manage their key players carefully ahead of the more important cup fixture. The physical and logistical demands of three games in five days could also become increasingly evident as the match progresses.
Szeged have not had a Champions League fixture to contend with this week, giving them a significantly more favorable schedule and allowing them to approach this game with all available players.
